Marc22 Posted February 3, 2022 Posted February 3, 2022 Site URL: https://colchester.network Hi All, In Google Search Console - under Coverage, it says I have 20 pages that have been Discovered - currently not indexed. And the status is set to Excluded. I can't see why this is happening, is there a switch somewhere globally to say exclude pages from google? Any idea what I'm missing? Thanks for helping, Marc
edharris Posted February 3, 2022 Posted February 3, 2022 The status you described in the coverage report captures URLs that Google is aware of but haven't been crawled or indexed (yet). It doesn't mean they won't be crawled and potentially indexed – it may just mean Google hasn't got to them yet. This may be the case if it's a brand new site. You can find more detailed information about what these status messages mean here: https://support.google.com/webmasters/answer/7440203?hl=en#zippy= I've found that setting up and verifying ownership of a Google Business Profile can help get a new site "noticed" by Google. Could give that a try too, while you're waiting for the site to get crawled. Marc22 Posted February 4, 2022 Author Posted February 4, 2022 Hi Ed, It's odd. I've removed the property from google search console and added manually. I also turned off www as the subdomain in SquareSpace, and then made sure I added the new site as just https://colchester.network. I'll leave it another couple of days and then investigate again. Thanks for your message, Marc.
Marc22 Posted February 16, 2022 Author Posted February 16, 2022 I just don't understand it - 12 pages show as valid and 17 show as Excluded. I will be moving away from SquareSpace soon if I can't find out why this is happening. In particular is this google, or SquareSpace or something I need to do. It's very annoying to see excluded pages and not know why. Who do I contact to get some answers?
DrBecky Posted February 19, 2022 Posted February 19, 2022 How old is your site? We have the same with ours which is just a few weeks old. We’ve not had a ton of traffic yet so I expect that’s part of the issue. I’ve asked Google to index a few important new pages so will hopefully see them added soon. we’ve just verified our business with Google too so hopefully that should help as mentioned above.
Marc22 Posted February 22, 2022 Author Posted February 22, 2022 The site started was started in January. My concern is that i'm missing something within SquareSpace; a setting somewhere that is telling google to exclude these pages: For excluded pages Google states: What are these? These are pages that were intentionally not indexed. Why does it matter? These pages won't appear in Google, but that was probably intentional. So what is telling google I want them excluded - it is not intentional at all? Especially when one of them is my homepage: https://colchester.network Thanks for your reply.

edharris Posted February 23, 2022 Posted February 23, 2022 @Marc22 - looks like your homepage is indexed and being included in Google search results now - see screenshot attached. Helping Google understand your site and when it will be helpful to show your URLs in search result pages can take time. Keep creating and sharing valuable, quality content that you know resonates with your local audience, and Google will pay attention in time.
