Background Video Not Playing on Safari

I can't figure out why my video isn't autoplaying on Safari. This is a new problem. When you used to go to my webpage the video would play automatically. Now you see a play button and nothing happens when you press it. This is only happening on Safari. On Google Chrome it works as intended and how it used to work on Safari. Something must've changed recently.

Safari seems to cause a hiccup between loops on video backgrounds hosted by Squarespace. Are there any plans to address the problem or any custom CSS workarounds for this?

I am having the same issue as Suzanne. Video background loops fine on Firefox and Chrome, but there's a hiccup between loops on Safari (section background colour shows between loops). Is there a workaround for Safari?

I am trying to add a video onto my website in the image section where it has then video upload section.
I upload the video and when it plays through it flashes white for a second then it starts playing again on AUTO.

I don't want the black so I need a solution to stop that, how is that? 

Can someone please help me.

I am also having this same issue even on the very latest and newest version. 
As soon as I open it in CHROME it works.

Same problem here... no autoplay in safari, not even a still image 😞 How to fix this?? Very disappointing to know that safari users see a kind of broken website

Yess I still have had no response on help, to how to resolve this issue.

I can use GIFS but MP4 look so much better and smoother.... 7.1 is really good but vert limiting on some things....

I've got the same problem. First it worked perfect but since today it does not work anymore.

Same problem here. I solved my own issue by upgrading to the latest software (iOS/iPadOS 17) but we can't assume that everybody will upgrade. This has to be addressed by Squarespace.

I have checked settings for Safari and autoplay is allowed and content blockers are off for my site.

Video plays on iPhone, Chrome, etc. but won't autoplay or even play when clicking the "play" button on Safari.

Try going to Battery in System Settings on your Mac, at the top "Low Power Mode" toggle to Never.
Doing this got my background videos to autoplay on Safari desktop.

I am experiencing the same issue with Safari. I hope this will become a priority as there is no way to control the browser where people view.
