Customise header background colour

I would like to customise the header background color so it's transparent on my home page, and a different colour on my other pages.

I have tried to add this to the advanced page header injection but it doesn't work. It seems to just keep the custom format of the first page I open, and not change when I switch between pages.

I'm having a very hard time changing the header to transparent on just the home page. I have the solid header option enabled so that I have a blue header on all pages and a white bottom border. I would like to get rid of the border and have the header transparent on just the home page. Logo graphic and navigation color can stay the same; just need to remove the background color of the header on the home page. Nothing is working. I have tried so many snippets of code on both the home page css and the global. Can't seem to get it. Please help. I'm using 7.1.
