Pull user info into Member Areas page?

I would like to get the information of a logged-in user to populate their landing page (the first page they visit after logging in). Is there a simple way to do this? Right now I've gone down the Profiles API rabbit hole, but as we don't have the fancy Commerce package, I won't be able to use these. Just getting the name and email address of a user onto a page after they've logged in would be hugely useful.
