Sadly your OS version is now too old to support current standards. Although the images are there, you can't see them. You'll need to upgrade to a newer version (Sierra or later) - if this is possible. If you're unsure about that, I recommend you reach out to Apple Support. They're usually pretty helpful, even for older devices and they'll tell you which version of the OS you can upgrade to. I wrote a longer post about this here: Did this help?
