Project Link Hover, video background

I want to replicate what I created here on my website: www.jayfang.art

But instead, I would want it to playback an actual video link from Vimeo or an upload.. The way I did this was by using a gif for the social image. I really don't like this method because it ruins the quality. Is there a solution? I've been looking everywhere but can't seem to find one. Thanks.
