Use custom animated header on my homepage

The solution you've mentioned uses JavaScript so you'd need a Business Plan (or above) for this to work on your site. If you're interested in experimenting with it, I recommend you start a trial so that you can play with it on a second site first. Trials don't have the limitation, so you'll be able to check that it meets your needs. 

If you are using Squarespace 7.1, there is a built-in feature called Background Art that is very similar. It allows you to add animated patterns and subtle color gradients and customise them with different shapes, sizes, and motions.
