Creating language-specific navigation menus on a multilingual site

I don't know if you can help me. I'm creating a multilingual site and would like to have two different navigation menus (one for the Spanish pages and another for the English ones). The videos/help guides suggest buying two sites and link them together (which I'd like to avoid as wouldn't afford the extra cost). They also suggest adding all pages to the not linked area and link them with content links (I assume that doing this enables you to navigate, but doesn't create a navigation menu).

At the moment I have a structure that ideally I would like to keep, with several folders for different pages. I don't know if it's possible to do this. I've read in another thread that you can add all items and then you can cancel/hide some by using code (I have no idea of how to do this). It would be great to get some idea, as I've watched the videos but they don't help.

Also, I would like to see if it's possible to delete the navigation menu from the homepage as I want it to be a mere landing page to direct visitors to language A or B.

Thanks.
