How do you remove an empty category from the site

I added a category by mistake but even when I remove all items from the category it shows up on the site.

To remove a category:

1. In the home menu, click Pages.
2. Hover over your store page in the list, and click the gear icon () to open the store settings.
3. Click Advanced.
4. Click Manage Categories.
5. Click all the category you want to delete. A check mark will appear beside category (see below).
6. Click Delete and then Confirm.
