Creating a homepage without a slug (7.1)

I am creating a new site with a 7.1 version template and I can't figure out how to create my home page without a trailing slug. Any help would be appreciated, thank you.

You can't, however the slug does not show up when your custom domain is used to go to your site. My home page has a slug but it is never seen nor do I need to give it out.

I have a website that has two home pages, example.com and example.com/homepage causing this error message from Google. Do you know how to fix this issue? Thanks!!   How can I set the home page to be example.com?

What I would prefer is that both the logo and the home tab go to example.com. NOT the example.com/homepage

Is the solution just to not include a HOME tab in the main menu? Even if I do that, Google still detects the duplicate homepages. Would the next step be to create a redirect for the example.com/homepage to the example.com?
