Scottev Posted October 24, 2021 Posted October 24, 2021 I'm in process of transferring blog posts from Wordpress to Squarespace for a client. Previously we could drag an image from their old post to a Squarespace post and the image would transfer along with the link it contained. It looks like the new uploader broke this so now we have to resort to downloading each image, reuploading each of them, and finding and entering the links they contained. It now takes many more clicks and searching, and easily takes 10x as long to transfer a post. Why has drag and drop been removed? This is a MAJOR step backwards. Is there a workaround, or a way to go back to the old uploader? We have 300 posts to go, each containing dozens of images, and I'm now going to lose a ton of money, or have to submit a change order and have a pissed off client. Help, please!
derricksrandomviews Posted October 24, 2021 Posted October 24, 2021 (edited) You may have to drag from Wordpress to your desktop and then to Squarespace. I know that dragging from a desktop folder to Squarespace does work. Edited October 24, 2021 by derricksrandomviews
Scottev Posted October 24, 2021 Author Posted October 24, 2021 Thanks Derrick. That's the best we came up with too, but it's still so much more work. We have to drag to the desktop, then drag it back to squarespace. Then go back to the original image in wordpress and right-click > copy link. Then go back to squarespace and click on the image, click edit, and paste the link in. And after awhile all the images on your desktop become a mess and you have to delete them. And you have less screen real-estate because you have to have your desktop showing. I get it doesn't sound like a ton but when you are talking about thousands of images, it is so much more work. Before we just dragged the image from on screen to another. What took 2 seconds takes 20 seconds. Anyone know if SS is planning to bring back the functionality?
derricksrandomviews Posted October 25, 2021 Posted October 25, 2021 I don't think that it is a SS change, it is more likely a Wordpress or Wordpress hosting service change. It has happened to me with other platforms as well. To keep from having images all over your desktop, create a folder there and drag the images into it. Then from the folder to SS. I know that moving blog posts is more of a headache than images from a gallery for sure. Maybe there might be something here that will help speed things up a bit: https://support.squarespace.com/hc/en-us/articles/206543957-Importing-content-from-WordPress-Blogger-or-Tumblr
A117O Posted March 27, 2023 Posted March 27, 2023 This keeps happening to me. I relaunch the editor, and sometimes it works. Crazy that something this old is still buggy af creedon 1
