Changing background color!!! Code doesn't work.

I have this timeline in place. To do it, it had to be placed where it is - it does not work in a code block. We want the entire background to be black, but because there is no block, I cannot seem to target it. "collection" ID number didn't work. Thoughts? 

We only want black on this page. We do not plan on a footer.
