Portfolio pages - yes or no

Redoing my own portfolio site in 7.1. My instinkt would be to do a regular pages with images links, that leads to regular pages describing the projects in detail (not project pages).

Now there is the portfolio function with many limitations (max 40 projects, cant move projects between portfolios, no drafts) and as I can tell few adwantages (a pagination function which is easily created in another way, a possibilty to copy portfolios but I dont see the need for that is there anything else..?) 

Am I missing something? Because otherwise here goes, creating my portfolio with regular pages...

I was wondering the same thing. Should I use the Blog format? but what if the Portfolio element is updated? I need to commit now.
