Can't get rid of navigation link underline

It's driving me crazy that I can't get rid of the underline for active links in the navigation. I've tried both "text-decoration" and "background-image" - 

.header-nav-item--active a {
  color: #1aa4f4 !important;
  font-weight: 700;
  background-image: none !important;
  text-decoration: none !important;
}

Any advice?
