Guest Posted July 1, 2021 Posted July 1, 2021 Site URL: http://www.takitreats.com Hi, We sell boxes of hand prepared pet treats on our website, and would like to explore a way that limits how many orders we can take each day. Is there a way we can customize the scheduling function or other plugins that we can use to include this function on our website? So a little more details. Each box of treats takes 36 hours to make, and our production is limited at present time. We are unable to meet demands when is a spike in orders, resulting in unhappy customers. I'd like to explore a system where I can set a limit to how many boxes of treat I can prepare each day (e.g. 20 boxes a day), and let the customer know the next available date during check out. This way they know with more certainty when to expect delivery and I can minimize delayed deliveries.

You don't appear to be using inventory tracking at the moment (products have "unlimited stock") which means customers can order as much as they like! If you set a stock level on each product, the stock level will decrease with each purchase. When your inventory is depleted, your customers will see a sold out message or a "let me know when it's back in stock" button and won't be able to place an order until you increase the stock levels again for your next production run. Of course the problem with this approach is that sales may be reduced because customers cannot backorder; they'll just see the "sold out" message. Squarespace doesn't support backorder fulfillment, and it isn't possible to add it, so if you need the ability to place orders for future fulfillment you'll need to use a more capable (more expensive) commerce platform like Shopify. Guest Posted July 1, 2021 Posted July 1, 2021 Hey Paul, thank you very much for this very honest reply. I'm surprised square space hasn't open up the marketplace and the extensions available are quite limited. You've outlines the exactly why we haven't opted to control the inventory, as it affects sales, and we'd like to keep the order flowing. Perhaps we can reposition the scheduling function for this?

I understand. Unfortunately there isn't a way to achieve what you want on Squarespace, with Scheduling or anything else. Squarespace is a great solution for many projects but this is not one of them. I appreciate that may not be the answer you'd expect on a Squarespace forum, but no-one wants you to struggle with Squarespace when it can't do what you need. Shopify is one of the best solutions for this situation. Me: I'm Paul, a SQSP user for >18 yrs & Circle Leader since 2017. I value honesty, transparency, diversity and good design ♥.
