Some items do not display in Facebook catalogue (invalid image)

Recommended Posts

Site URL: https://stephenchowphotography.com/

Some of the items interfacing to the Facebook catalogue are not showing, with the reason being invalid images.

When I click on the image link of the item in facebook, the link seems strange for these items:

Invalid item image link: https://external.fhkg3-2.fna.fbcdn.net/safe_image.php?d=AQGaA7VSDIAdGJGI&url=https%3A%2F%2Fimages.squarespace-cdn.com%2Fcontent%2Fv1%2F5fd2ec1efed4e01eff0fe5a6%2F1624535439032-F0U94HH16XQ4PBQ7JVD9%2FBuses%2Bthb.png&ccb=3-5&_nc_hash=AQFNX9quMm162Uhv

Facebook error message is attached.

This is only happening for 11 items out of 59. And these items had previously interfaced to facebook successfully. Does anyone know how to fix this?

The image link from the Squarespace Content Delivery Network appears to be valid and working - I tested this link:

https://images.squarespace-cdn.com/content/v1/5fd2ec1efed4e01eff0fe5a6/1624535439032-F0U94HH16XQ4PBQ7JVD9/Buses+thb.png

The product image specifications for Facebook catalogues are as follows:

  • You must include at least one image per product
  • The image must be in JPEG or PNG format
  • The image must be below 8MB.
  • An accurate image of the product itself.
  • Match the title and description of the exact product for sale.
  • Not include offensive content such as nudity, explicit language or violence.

If you've met these specifications then it will be difficult for us to diagnose because we won't have access to the backend of Squarespace or Facebook. I recommend that you reach out to them both for some troubleshooting tips. You can reach out to Squarespace here.

Let us know how you get on 🙂

I don't know why the problem has only shown up now

It's possible that Squarespace could have changed the compression algorithms for images, resulting in a different file size over a period of time, although I'm not aware of any recent changes.

You can usually reduce the size of the images by appending a URL query - the portion of a URL that follows a question mark [?]. For example if https://images.squarespace-cdn.com/content/v1/5fd2ec1efed4e01eff0fe5a6/1624535439032-F0U94HH16XQ4PBQ7JVD9/Buses+thb.png is a 10.5MB image then appending ?format=1500w will download an image that is only 1500-pixels wide and is 3.8MB or ?format=500w will download an image that is 500-pixels wide.
