Allowing Users to Subscribe to Events Calendar

Recommended Posts

Posted

Hello!  I am wondering if it's possible to provide my users with a link to subscribe to my calendar in some way using the Event feature / block calendar.  I am not seeing a way to provide access to iCalendar or the link.  Does anyone have any suggestions?

I would prefer to use the Squarespace events since they look nicer, but could use Google Calendar if that is the better option.

Appreciate any feedback!

Events pages are not structured like a calendar and so users cannot ‘subscribe’ to them. However, you can add 'export links' for iCal and Google Calendar so that users can add specific events to their own calendar. These are supported on Squarespace 7.1 and Brine-family templates on Squarespace 7.0 among others.

Squarespace 7.1:

Squarespace 7.0 Brine family (Site Styles):

@paul2009 this isn't what we're asking.

I have 1,000 people who want to know when we create an event. They want to be notified. Can they subscribe to our events calendar and get these notifications? Currently the only option is they remember to check our website occasionally to know what's going on, which as you can imagine, is too hard 😅

I agree with prestoluke, but I'd be happy with even getting the capability specified.  I have SquareSpace 7.0 and Brine template.   I can't get to that "Format" page.  I assume you got there by hitting "Manage Events", but when I hit "Manage Events", it either reloads page (Chrome) or does nothing (FireFox).

I assume that the image only shows in 7.1, but it says that it should work with 7.0 if you use Brine.

The second screenshot is for Brine. You can find it in Design > Site Styles.

Is there anything new offered on this issue? I too have people who would like ALL of my school's events to be automatically added to their calendar through a feed (ical link). This is different than going to the specific event and choosing Google Calendar or ICS.

If the events are stored in a third party calendar that supports this service, you can add a link that connects to the third party calendar subscribe link, allowing users cannot ‘subscribe’ to the events. However, this will be totally separate to an "Events" page on Squarespace.

This is not a very good workaround and defies the point of adding events into Squarespace if we then have to update them everywhere else manually.

May I suggest creating an events calendar feed be raised as a feature request? It should be standard on any calendar yet is not here for some reason.

I agree, but it's the only workaround available so I mentioned it for completeness! 🙂

This is a peer-to-peer forum where Squarespace users help other users so Squarespace won't respond to a feature request here (see the guidelines - item 7). To make a feature request and ensure it is seen by the right people at Squarespace, you can do so via Squarespace Customer Support using a support ticket.

This describes my issue exactly. I'd like to maintain my upcoming events in one central place & have the capability to feed or push it elsewhere (Facebook Events, LinkedIn Events, Eventbrite, MeetUp, etc.) - it just makes it easier to promote our cause. Nobody likes double data entry, & I'm even willing to figure out a workaround using workflow automation tools but haven't been able to yet & still be compatible with the Events module.

Squarespace clearly is using APIs for Events, but they don't even document it from their Developer pages or expose this feature. We have a Squarespace Business Plan, & this still doesn't seem feasible.
