editing images

Hi. I need to edit some thumbnail images. Following the help directions, I went to the edit / upload area and clicked on a thumbnail image to edit, expecting the "image editor" to become available, however it did not. What am I doing wrong?

Are the thumbnails in a gallery/portfolio page? Project page? If a project you edit the page then click the image icon to open the gallery panel then the edit image is on the right. Technically you edit the image, not the thumbnail of the image. 

Thanks so much for replying. I'm not sure: when I have the menu on the side that includes pages, design, commerce, marketing, etc., I select pages, then my 3 pages are listed: Shop, About, and Contact. I select Shop and my product images open. But I can't seem to find the "image editor that will allow me to edit the thumbnails. 

All pages work the same to start, after selecting it in the config panel, you have to choose edit up on the top left corner. After doing that another menu panel opens on that page, and you will see an image icon or a manage projects icon, and if the second is there you click that, hit edit up on the top left again to open the config panel,  and you will see an image icon that gets you to the upload image panel and any of those images can be selected and edited.
