How can I limit inventory of digital products?

I'm selling a digital product--book cover art--and I need to be able to limit the inventory so that each product is sold only once. 

But I can't seem to change the stock from infinite. 

Can anyone help? 

So it's impossible on SquareSpace to limit a digital product to just one inventory item?

Correct. See Before you begin in the Digital Products guide:

• It's not possible to set the quantity or add variants for digital products.

this is soooo annoying! i sell exclusive artworks for cd covers, the whole point of setting up the digital store was so it was frictionless and customers can get instant downloads, this needs to be addressed.

This is a dealbreaker for me unfortunately and im moving from squarespace to another platform after almost 5 years.

100% agree, SquareSpace makes it almost impossible to offer a limited number of subscriptions, does not offer customization for limits of digital products etc which is pretty standard and available in pretty much any other online retail platform.

I will also be leaving SquareSpace because of their inadequacies.
