Attempting to add "Color" multiple times as option for variants

Hello All, 

We are attempting to create a "choose your own bundle" for my product where customers can select the 4 different color options to create their own combinations. However, we see that you can only add color as a variant option once. I have also tried adding "color 1, color 2, color 3, color 4" as custom options but realized that this would not pull from available levels of inventory. Has anyone found a way to allow for customization while still pulling from available inventory levels? I hope my question and explanation of the situation was clear.
