Page Descriptions vs Thumbnails in Index

Recommended Posts

Is there a way to show the page descriptions for each page in an index as you hover across the index menu options instead of the thumbnail images? I have it set to show on the main page which works beautifully, but I would like subsequent page descriptions (or, alternatively, a text box) to show as you scroll across the index menu options instead of the banner/thumbnail images.

I attempted simply creating images of the text I want shown, but since its viewed as an image, the actual; text gets cut off on smaller screen sizes instead of adjusting as text would.

I am using the Henson template in the Tremont Template Family.

I am not looking for the page description text to show once the page is clicked on and accessed. I understand how to do that. I am hoping to have the page description shown in place of the thumbnail image as the index menu options are moused over.

It would help if you posted a link to your site, with so many templates using custom code for each one, more specific template information is needed to porvide the proper code and acces to view the site helps get it.

My site is https://andrewforrestbaker.com/, however the question I am asking is for a template I'm considering switching to and is not currently live. I don't want to make the template live until I've figured out a work around for the issue above --or decided to go in a different direction-- because it isn't working for me yet and looks quite horrible. Haha

However, if it helps, here is the template: https://www.squarespace.com/templates/henson-demo

And here is the Squarespace Demo site: https://henson-demo.squarespace.com/?nochrome=true

For the demo, on the landing page, the "I am a designer..." is the page description displayed on the index page. As you scroll across the index menu options at the bottom of the page, the banner/thumbnail images for each of those pages is shown. I am hoping for a way to show each of those pages page descriptions (or alternately a text box) instead of an image.

I also totally get if it's not doable. 😃

That's what I was thinking/trying. The issue is it looks fine on a desktop, but the image is cropped for tablet and mobile screens so the text becomes unreadable. Or, conversely, if it is sized for mobile, appears really small on desktop.

I thought that may be the only solution, but figured I'd put it out there in case you folk who are much smarter than me at this would have an alternate solution. Thanks so much for your help!

You might use a plug-in like the following to achieve this effect.

I don't know if it will work for what you want.
