I linked a Word document. stored on Google Drive. When I click on the link, it allows anyone to Edit the document.

I added links to Word documents stored on my Google Drive (not the Google Drive associated with my Domain) in the Footer of my webpages. When I click on the links, it pulls up the Word documents in a separate window like I wanted. But I noticed that the documents can be edited by anyone who clicks on the links. The documents should not be editable. How can I change this? Thank you very much!

I'm not able to edit those documents. Unless you log out of Google Drive before clicking those links, you will naturally have edit access as you are the owner.

You could right click on those links to open the documents in an Incognito window to make sure folks outside don't have edit access.
