How long does it take google to index pages?

Recommended Posts

Hi, i just launched a website yesterday and i have a couple of questions.

So i made a couple of changes to the website after launching and submitted them to search console to get indexed, how long does it usually take google to index pages? I want to create a sitelinks listing format but i am still waiting for google to act on it.

Secondly, my favicon is not displaying on SERPs. Its working fine on tabs, but not on search results. Why is that? Is it normal? All of the other sites have it, and i tried caching my browser too.

And last thing is that, all of my pages are showing four api errors. 3 of them are by robots.txt, and one of them is /api/1/performance/error with unknown status.

1. To the best of my knowledge for organic results Sitelinks are created by Google. You can specify them only when using their paid advertising platform. I have found that a clean and well-structured system architecture seems to be good combination for making your sitelinks pop more quickly in search results. Also you need to give Google time to index your website and understand it's makeup.

2. I would use a favicon generator to create these as it will also ensure you add all the different variants of favicon to your website. Generally once done these should update pretty quickly, and you should see the update on mobile devices.

3. I would hazzard a guess that these are assets SquareSpace has decieded to block from Google for some reason and you will not be able to make any changes to those situations.

Good luck.

Hi, thank you so much for responding. So basically, how would i go around uploading all the favicon variants? Because squarespace only allows you to upload one, and according to them "Favicon images work best across all browsers when sized between 100px × 100px and 300px × 300px, though they display at 16px × 16px". I uploaded it in 100 × 100 px.

Ha that's a good point!!

You would probably need to use a combination of the SS file upload option and some code-injection in the header across all pages.

Might be tricky if you are not a tecchie.

I have one more question and then i will be out of your way. Why is google displaying my SERPs as both http and https. This makes it look like duplicate content. I checked and my 301 redirect is on, and these URLs lead to the same page. Also my favicon is now working but only for the https ones, is there any way i can remove these http links?

Yeah it will depends on your type of site or interval between the posts. Normally, it will take 2,3 days. But you can make it faster by increase the crawler rate from Google Webmaster tool. I remember that my blog Azar App was not indexed auto than I follow this practice and next day it is appear in SERP result.

1. There's a setting in Squarespace site settings that will let you force HTTPS  - HSTS secure:
https://support.squarespace.com/hc/en-us/articles/205815898-Understanding-SSL-certificates#toc-choose-ssl-settings

2. Read this as the setting in Google Search Console is no longer there:

3. add both http and https to your GSC account, add sitemap to https as well

Wait for Google spider to come around again, should take up to a month. Make some changes on your pages (add a bit of text) and it may come around sooner 🙂

I have sort of the same issue. I know Google can take weeks/months to properly index all of your pages. I went into the Google Search Console to upload the sitemap in hopes that would speed the process up and after I uploaded with the /sitemap.xml addition--the status is "Couldn't Fetch"

Not sure if thats because Google hasnt tried to process it yet or if thats because there is a error
