How to customize product page with blocks

I was wandering how to add a section onto the "store page" where the product details are shown. I have searched the internet and only thing I have come across was using the "additional info" when editing the product details. 

However, I want to have more control over the design of the product details, like changing the background color and using custom layouts. Any ways I can do that because it seems I can't add a new section under the product. Many thanks!

Add section. You mean product list page or product detail page?

If produt list, you can add a section in Footer, then we will check & give the code to move it into product list.
