Code for billingual site doesnt work

Recommended Posts

Hi there,

I am helping a friend who just bought a site on Squarespace and have an issue using the codes for crafting a billingual site here on this platform. I will try to put it the simplest I can: Overall the code works fine etc, one of each languages is viewable on the main navigation for a start, however when I navigate from one language to the other (when i push the button to change the language), the page does change but the menu is stuck in the previous language. And when I hit refresh to the page, it does work without misbehaving.

If you can be of any help, please let me know if you need me to send the password of the site.

Thank you in advance,

M.

(Below you can find an example of one of the codes I used, as well as to give you a hint of what am talking about)

<style>nav.Header-nav--secondary {

   display: none;

 }

  .Mobile-overlay-nav--secondary {

   display: none;

  }

</style>

I don't know where you found the styles that you've posted above but adding these to the code injection header won't work on this site unless you disable Ajax Page Loading

This is because you are using a Brine-family template. This template family has a feature called "Ajax Page Loading" that loads the site faster by ignoring the page header. If you add code to the page header it may appear to work when logged on, but it won't work for visitors. It's better not to disable this, but it is essential if you want to achieve your goal using the technique above.

If it helps, here's an alternative method that Brad wrote about: https://www.bradgood.net/articles/multi-language-content-on-any-squarespace-template

Hi there Paul & thanx for the reply.

I had already in mind this tutorial (and have tried it once again this time), but it seems more troubleshooting than the hussle of adding the same code again & again to hide one language from another...

On another note, it seems that disabling Ajax nav is a must either way, no? As it is written on the sidenotes of all these step-by-step guides to ensure that your code is working properly.

I can send the password if you could further help, since its a private site for now.

Also, check below my failed try to this aforementioned guide (a. didnt manage to hide both languages, and b. the flags dont navigate to the right page not to mention that they re almost hidden on the top left ;/).
