How do I switch an existing site (on squarespace) into the new one I've designed in a different template

I had a site made for me in squarespace but now it feels out of date.

So, I've watched a few videos and now created my own site in Squarespace.

But how do I switch them over, how do I turn the old one off, and the new on on?

As per the attachment, old one vs new one, how do I flip them over?

I am so grateful for any help!!?

You can move your domain name from the old to the new site as follows:

1. Log on to the old site and disconnect the domain Settings > Domains > Disconnect Domain and confirm.

2. Log on to the new site and connect the domain. Go to Settings > DomainsUse a Domain I Own and follow the steps to connect your domain.

There may be some additional delays depending on whether SSL and HSTS were enabled on the old site. If you need help with this process you can contact Squarespace Customer Care. You can reach out to them here.

You're AMAZINg this worked like a dream thanks man!

Only now Squareapace is asking me to pay to upgrade to publish the new site. But, i don't want to pay twice, how do I do the same sort of switcheroo, only this time with the payment I've already got in place?

Thanks SO much, really appreciate the helP!

It’s not possible to move a website subscription between sites. You'll need to cancel the site you don’t need and upgrade the one you want to use in its place.

Check Squarespace's Refund Policy before cancelling, because they don't offer pro-rata refunds.

To cancel a site subscription:

1. Go to Settings > Billing & AccountBilling > Subscriptions.

2. Click your site subscription and then click Cancel Subscription.

Can I get some help from Squarespace support?

I did a domain transfer 6 days ago, and the new website hasn't propagated yet. Both sites on the panel show the same domain that I want to use, but the old website is still displayed when I access the domain.

Additionally, the domain has SSL enabled, which I believe might be causing some kind of problem.

I've already contacted support, but I haven't received any response for 4 days now.

Any assistance or guidance on resolving this issue would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

Squarespace don't provide support via this forum (please see the forum guidelines). If you'd like help from other forum users, please provide some more information.

  1. What is the domain name?
  2. Who hosts the domain name?
  3. Who hosts your website?
  4. What settings have you set/changed?
  5. It will also help if you can provide a screenshot of your domain DNS panel.

Hi there, thank you for your reply.

  1. Domain name is https://www.stratficonsulting.com/
  2. Domain name is transferred to Squarespace from Google
  3. The website is hosted on Squarespace
  4. Settings were adjusted as you described in your post
    1. Settings > Domains > Disconnect Domain
    2. Settings > Domains > Use a Domain I Own
  5. Image added.

I made some changes today to see if that would fix it and I managed to get some pages resolved and show the new website if you go to https://www.stratficonsulting.com/areas-of-expertise you will see the new website before my DNS change was not showing. However, the homepage still shows the old website.

What I did - I removed the Squarespace Defaults for DNS settings, in those were IP addresses of the old website. And I added custom addresses from the new Website, which I think is how it should be pointed out. Another thing to note is that adding Squarespace Defaults for DNS now brings an error:

"We were unable to add these records. Try again later. If this problem continues, contact Customer Support."

Not sure if this is now some cache issue and I just need to wait it out or if the problem with the switch remains. Screenshot2024-07-08at13_57_25.thumb.png.d45a42e1d286f3e963c8319c893d0d6b.png

It appears to be working now. If you accessed it prior the DNS changes, your old view will be cached but this will clear after time.

Hello,

Have the instructions for moving a domain name changed since you posted in 2021? I followed your instructions: "Log on to the old site and disconnect the domain by going to Settings > Domains > Disconnect Domain and confirming." However, I was unable to do so. When I logged into my dashboard and navigated to Settings > Domain & Email > Domains, the only options available were to buy a domain or use a domain I own. My website is live, so I'm not sure why I'm seeing these options and not the disconnect domain option. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

Some domains seem to be stuck between Google and Squarespace for owner management of the domain. In many cases, time seems to have cured it. It should show up, but you may make it do so sooner by choosing  "use a domain I own" and see if it shows up there. The most important thing is that the site you are moving the domain to cannot be a trial, it has to have a billing plan.
