help with downloadable PDF

Recommended Posts

Site URL: http://theoptionalfacts.com

Hi there,  I am trying to add a PDF to my site.  I have tried to have it open as a new window...that doesn't work.  I also want the PDF to be downloadable.  I cannot figure out how to do this.  I have watched so many videos...all say the same thing, and I have followed the directions.  It just does not work.

Can anyone help, please. The PDF is the Untold Stories of History.

Thanks,

Dave

@derricksrandomviews, I believe I have followed the steps listed in your link, but when testing the PDF for  download, it does not work. I'm working on a trial site not yet live — does trial site have anything to do with not being able to download the PDF?

Problem solved! I received another screen recording from tech support for this procedure.

https://share.squarespace.com/nOulxR5b

What is more obvious in this screen recording is that I must select the PDF file that I've uploaded and a check will appear next to it (see attached screenshot — the check is next to the cursor). Unless the PDF is selected with the check mark appearing, the link will not work when saved.

There could be more emphasis on the support video on selecting and the check mark appearing. It appears other designers are running into the same problem.

Does anyone know why only the first page of my file will download?

Please check the uploaded file contains more than one page. The entire PDF file will be downloaded.

Yes it contains 5 pages but only the 1st page downloads. I actually have 4 separate files doing the same thing. If I open the versions stored on my laptop they show all the pages. I upload those to Squarespace directly and when I download them from my website they all only show the first page.

Do you have a product installed that is allowing you to preview the PDF in the browser? These often have buttons that need to be clicked to move between pages.

If not, please provide a link to the page or the PDF so that we can test it.
