Adding anchor links in Markdown to create a table of contents?

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I am writing a long blog post and I would like to put in a 'contents' section  with anchor links to different parts of the post and was wondering if this would be possible to do using Markdown? Ideally I would like the contents section to look like it does in this blog post: https://katescott.co/blog/flodesk-email-marketing

I know how to add anchor links and have created a contents section using links and code blocks before (https://www.moganddogtravels.com/blogs/getting-a-chinese-visa-in-kuala-lumpur) but it is very spread out.  I don't  even know whether it is possible to do this in Markdown or whether I need to be using something else.  I tried adding the following after reading some suggestions online but whilst it comes up as a link, it doesn't jump to the anchor link I have created.

### <a href="#vegetarian-starters">Turkish vegetarian starters</a>

I am a total newbie to coding so don't know what I am doing at all! Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance!
