Custom Background CSS; how to apply to the entire section?

Dear squarespace community, 

I want to apply a gradient background to sections of my website. I have found the section ID, however when I apply the code below, only the background behind the text and image gets changed. How do I apply this so that also the background colour of the text block and image block (in the same section) gets changed as well?
