Is it possible to replicate image "active alignment setting" of v7 carousel in v7.1 gallery reel?

I have a gallery reel on my website homepage (version 7.1) and want it to function like the gallery carousel in version 7. In particular I would like the starting image to be left aligned and for the subsequent images to be right aligned when I click through to the next one. Is this possible to do in version 7.1 using some clever code?
