Managing options on made to order items

Hello! 

I've recently moved over the Square space from Etsy, and i'm struggling with one aspect regarding stock variations. 

For example, on Etsy I can have my item (e.g. a wallet) with 2 in stock, as I have enough leather in stock to make 2, as these are made to order the customer can pick from a range of 3 different thread colours, on Etsy, the stock of the item is tracked, rather than each thread colour variant individually. 

On my Square Space store, the only option I can find is to track the stock of each variant separately, so if I want to offer 3 different thread colour options, I have to essentially have 3 entire wallets in stock, rather than just two, both of which can have a custom thread colour. 

Is there anyway around this?

TL:DR, I want to track the stock of my made to order items which have a custom aspect, rather than each variant.
