Gift Certificates values can't be added

I am in a trial period. The support for gift cards/certificates is nice, but I can't get it to work for multiple values. I create the product with, say, a $25 value. Then I click the + to add a $50 variant and upload an image for $50. All looks fine, I save it.

Now if I go to the product page, I see the $25 and $50 thumbnails on the left - great. I click on the $50 image and the big image changes - but the price is still shown as $25 and if I add it to the cart, it's the $25 version.

Worse, if I edit the product again, the $50 SKU is gone!

How is this supposed to work?
