Hey there. I currently live in South Africa and unfortunately Stripe isn't supported in my country yet of which I cannot have PayPal as my only payment option for so many reasons including the fact that Paypal isn't popular at all in our country. So my attempt is to add pay fast as a payment gateway to my Squarespace website. Any assistance will be much appreciated, please and thank you.

If your business is entirely based in South Africa, you cannot use Squarespace for online sales yet.

Stripe and PayPal are the only payment processors that you can use with Squarespace Commerce, and neither support South Africa. PayPal doesn't support South African Rand (ZAR) and, although Stripe support Rand, they do not support businesses that are entirely based in South Africa.

It isn't possible to integrate other payment processors, which means that you cannot use PayFast's API for example. You could add third party "payment buttons" but the third party platform will need to handle the entire order process in addition to the payment. This guide may help to explain: Using Squarespace in South Africa with PayFast, Netcash or Rave.

Hi,

Has any South Africans been able to successfully link their PayPayl business accounts to squarespace?

I have followed all the steps and I have checked on PayPal itself and SquareSpace is connected. I have made my site live to do a test run using a different email, but I keep getting the message 'Checkout is closed. This store isn't set up to process payments.' When I go back to commerce settings my PayPal is not linked. Then I link it again, receive an email that I've changed my PayPal account, but it's still not showing as linked.

I'm wondering if I need to change something on my PayPal business account? I have tried to link a back account to receive payments by adding one, but I can't enter a 'routing number' as South African banks don't use those. I am fully set up to withdraw funds etc., but I think the settings is different if you want to receive funds. I am also thinking of changing my shop currency to USD, as ZAR doesn't seem to be supported by PayPal.

Any advice? Any South Africans been able to successfully set up shop with SquareSpace?

Please help!

Lia

Can you let me know if this is still the case now regarding Squarespace and Payfast?

Squarespace Commerce only supports Stripe and PayPal. Payfast is not supported and is unlikely to be supported in the near future.

If you're looking for workarounds to use Payfast, this guide may help: Using Squarespace in South Africa with PayFast, Netcash or Rave.

Paypal does support South African Rand now.

I don't believe this is the case so I'd be interested to know where you read this. PayPal supports 25 currencies (see the list here) and, due to South African regulations, ZAR is not one of them.
