Best way to structure the presentation of products on my site & whether to use 7.0 or 7.1

Recommended Posts

Hi,

Am currently building a new site for my company. I am not a pro designer, just self-taught over the last 9 months.
I have built a couple of sites already with 7.1 so know this platform ok, but haven't used 7.0 at all.

The company is a commercial furniture manufacturer with a large range of products but as the products are more 'range/system' based with different configurations and size/options within each range it will just be a portfolio product site (not a ecommerce sell online site)

Some similar sites are https://www.krost.com.au/  and also https://www.montage-interiors.com.au/

Just after some advice on how to present the product portfolio best. What would you suggest?

  1. Just use a page in main navigation with no sub-pages called 'Products', and in this page have links to product categories pages much like https://www.montage-interiors.com.au/products.html and those product category link pages have thumbnails to individual product pages.
  2. Or i could use a Portfolio page in main navigation where the categories would be 'projects' and each category page have thumbnails of individual products. (This is basically the same as option 1)
  3. Or i could put a folder in the main navigation called 'products' and have each product category as a sub-page dropdown and each of these dropdowns goes to a page with thumbnails for the induvidual products in these categories.
  4. Or i could use an actually ecommerce store page called products and sort products with tags and categories. But would need to remove ability to add to cart and remove prices etc. Not sure about this one as product page content isn't as flexibile to change with image location etc.

Or some other method?

The only thing is I would like to be able to get it live quickly myself but be able to expand and customise site later with a developer to be able to have product category tags and filtering with the use of Universal Filter (https://www.squarewebsites.org/products/universal-filter) like this website https://www.t-c-w.com.au/collection/
And also potentially be able to customise the navigation dropdown.

Any advice would be much appreciated - I don't know what squarespace is capable of for these situations.

I think universal-filter will help you to display filtered collection item so suit your need, or if you still want to take advantage of product system, can apply some workaround using custom code to disable add to cart or price, but this is not ideal

Do you know if this filter works only with pages in 1 collection item?

So for example i would have to have all product pages under the 1 portfolio collection?

Or can it filter across different collection items?
