How can I create test products hidden from public view

I have a subscription site that is due to launch this weekend. I want to create a test subscription product to make sure that my subscription settings are set up correctly before real subscriptions are due to renew.

I don't have enough time before launch to create a subscription product to test the functionality and remove before launch. But I also don't want a test product in my shop during the test period to confuse my customers.

Thinking out loud as I type, the subscription length for my products will be a month, can I set the subscription length for a week while I sign up to test, then change the subscription length to a month for the site launch?

So that my test subscription will renew within a week, while any following subscribers get a monthly subscription?

Or will changing the subscription length update my original test subscription?
