SEO not working for main page, is showing footer copy instead

Recommended Posts

Site URL: http://.katehockenhull.com

I've been setting up my SEO and the description I have for my pages is coming up correctly except my home page. When i just search, in google, for my name, kate hockenhull photography, the description is copy from a footer on the home page that now only appears on the info page.

Any ideas on how to fix it would be very much appreciated.

Hello! The home page SEO settings are a bit different from the other pages, for whatever reason. It uses the site settings for page title and meta description. This page has some more info: https://support.squarespace.com/hc/en-us/articles/206016198 Just scroll down to the subheading, "Add an SEO site description".

That being said, Google also ignores your site's meta description a lot of the time —like 70% of the time. (SOURCE) It can be very annoying when they get it wrong. For a photography site like yours, where your home page is made up of just photos displaying your work, Google might use the first text it comes across which might be in your footer. the only suggestion I can offer is to add some text to the top of the page but of course there's an aesthetic/design tradeoff too.

Hope that helps!

Thanks for your reply.  I've since removed that copy from the footer on that page.  Do you know if there is a way of refreshing google's description after the website has changed?

Google Search Console, submit or resubmit sitemap and/or URL
