Migrating Subscriptions From Squarespace to Another Backend Site

Recommended Posts

I have found the subscription product Squarespace offers does not match our business model, so I am migrating my customers to a new subscription base back end site.

This new site uses Stripe as well and is will to do the migration. I will have to manual cancel all of my current customers subscriptions in Squarespace. Does this cancellation cause member data to be deleted out of Stripe? (i.e. the customer ID, credit card, etc)

https://forum.squarespace.com/profile/632-paul2009/ See you have posted about subscriptions in the past. Could you help me here?

Were you able to migrate without losing customers' subscriptions? Did you use "Stripe managed by SquareSpace" or did Stripe NOT managed by SquareSpace?

I am trying to figure if I could use SquareSpace and have an account that is Stripe NOT managed by SquareSpace collect the subscription instead in case I need to migrate in the future. Does anybody know of a solution? What subscription platform did you end up using?

(FYI. I have tried WordPress but there is so much maintenance with the various plug-ins creating bugs with one another. Wix does not allow for pausing subscriptions and only allows frequencies of every week, every month, or every year (it also does not allow coding for this but a work around is to change the payment frequency through Stripe). The other platforms I've considered are Subbly which has great customer service, Shopify but I don't know what subscription extensions to use, CrateJoy, Moon Clerk.)

I discovered if you want to migrate off of SquareSpace, it forces your subscriber product to cancel their subscription. I wanted to know if there is a way to migrate without losing customers' subscriptions? Would capturing customers' information subscription through Stripe not managed by SquareSpace would allow me to keep the subscription product active?

I can see the business outgrowing SquareSpace. It does not allow customers to change their address on their own, buy multiple quantities, and not being able to gift annual subscription.

You cannot export your subscriptions. If you cancel your site, the subscriptions will be cancelled and customers will need to take the time and initiative to start a new subscription on your new site.

This is one of a number of limitations of subscriptions that I wrote about shortly after their launch in 2018.
