Stop page from shifting

Hi! I'm new here and hoping to find some guidance, I've been trying to find answers on google and through the forums but haven't found an answer. I'm not sure but I might be using the wrong terms. 

I'm currently trying to build a website as a portfolio for my business. I was wondering if anyone can guide me through my problem, might be a simple fix. Does anyone know how to keep your images and text stationary? It's frustrating that everything shifts so much depending on your screen size -- text do no align with pictures, pictures changing sizes, etc.
