Variable colors in a single section

Hello! I want to try something a little fun and have a color blocked section - I think I could find a way to do this using images, but I'd love to know if anyone has a way to set a section background to be different - basically what I want to do is have the background behind the outside two boxes of this be purple, and leave the middle one white:
