Give the option to decline cookies?

Is it possible to give a person the choice to decline cookies in the banner? My client wants there to be a yes/no button for cookie usage. Has anyone figured out anything like this yet? My understanding is that if I "Disable Squarespace Analytics Cookies" then cookies will not be used unless the person "x's" the popup... is that the only solution for this?

Same issue. We asked a lawyer an advice for GDPR/legal text for a client website. She finally told us whatever the text, we are fucked up because we can't propose a yes/no solution in the cookie banner and a preference center after the approval. GDPR is clear in France and EU : users have to be able to say yes or not to cookies and then be able to modify their settings. And the risk is pretty high : 4% of the sales revenue.

we have warned guys at squarespace. they have asked their devs to "consider" fixing this issue. Hope they will do it soon since we have several websites live and some others in prep : any of them is clean because of this miss. Moreover, SS is aware of that since their .com includes these functionalities.

Sadly, we decided to disable cookies on the site to avoid the risks since I found no clear way for visitors to opt in or out... The lawyer didn't make it sound too good if we get in trouble. Client doesn't want any chances of being sued. Let me know if you find out how to do this please!

P.S. Squarespace is really falling behind the competition with this lack of options for cookies, lack of calculated international shipping options, and required MANUAL entry of tax data for each state or place... I'm really getting sick of all the bad news I keep getting every step of the way just to set up a commerce website. So frustrating since this is what they promote themselves to make sooooo simple and easy... NOT. smh.

There is no option to allow SS viewers opt out of the use of cookies for the site. However the site owner can turn them off. Here is a list of cookies and what tey do as well as other info:

We have now been given notice by an Irish Government organisation (Education Body) that they will start enforcing compliance and to this day, after this has been on the horizon for years, we do not have a compliant cookie solution from Squarespace. We are currently having to make a difficult decision to migrate to a different platform moving dozens of clients and a big pipeline of projects. Just can't afford to get into legal problems and there is no sign from Squarespace to offer a solution. On top of this, the recent reliability issues with very poor uptime has cost us several clients already. Very concerning and sad as I want to love Squarespace.

I am also in need of a rather urgent solution to this problem.

Since it's already integrated in the German Squarespace website, I presume it's possible to bring it to us clients as well.

No solution means I have to migrate to another service, which I don't look forward to at all..

Interesting. Can you explain how using the Announcement bar for cookies solves the issue of not being able to give a user a chance to say yes or no to cookies, and to set preferences?

I have the same issue with several websites I have created for my clients in Spain. I kindly ask Squarespace to develop this solution as soon as possible or to give more solutions apart of turning them off, to be able to continue working with this great company.

I just ran into this today. If you look at Squarespace's page with suggested privacy notices, it says:

Note the second bullet. It implies that it is possible to avoid the "analytics and performance" cookies by not acknowledging the banner (clicking on the X or OK).  This does in fact seem to be the case, but you then get the cookie notice on every page you visit. Many sites give you the option of declining the second category of cookies and using the site normally, but not Squarespace.

You can opt out of these cookies on a site-wide basis in Settings. The article "The cookies Squarespace uses" also says, "You can also disable collecting these cookies from visitors until they accept your cookie policy in a cookie banner." but it is unclear to me how this is done.

I found a solution to the cookie banner that lacks a yes/no option but still satisfies me as an improvement over what I had.

I added a link to the banner text "cookies" to a separate Cookies in secondary navigation, which also summarizes a Privacy policy.

I'm sure that this draft of the Cookies page will be improved as I go on. It's a start.
