Looking to migrate my ecommerce store from Magento to Squarespace

Recommended Posts

I have been running an ecommerce store which was operational from last 3 years in the USA region and it was working fine for me. But, then Magento 1 end of life hit the market and now the extensions I was using on my Magento 1 store are not being updated regularly. Which really is bothering me. I talked to the developer and he told me that there is no other option but to migrate my ecommerce store from Magrnto 1 to Magento 2 and has also told me that it's a very risky step and I might end up in loosing the crucial data and orgainc performance.

So, I am looking for the other options apart from Magento 2 for migration which leads me to square space. So, if there is anyone who guide me the process.

Have you read about the features of a Squarespace store? That is a starting point. You'll probably want to focus on text related to version 7.1 of SS, unless you see specific features of 7.0 you need.

Can you give us a little more background on your Magneto site? How many products do you sell? I assume you want to try and import information from Magneto into SS? Do you have to collect taxes? Would you mind giving us the URL for your current store? I'd be curious to see how it is put together.

In any kind of migration there is always risk but it sounds like the developer is injecting FUD to keep you on the Magneto path.

Although I've not used Magneto I did some quick reading about exporting data out of it. It didn't seem all that dire. There are apparently places where you go in the back end and you can export the various databases (customers, products, orders) out of the system.

There is a tool that can help with migrating your store from M to SS. I have no idea as to the quality of it.

I suggest you start a trial site on SS and focus on creating a store page. Enter a few items by hand. Get familiar with how things work on SS and see how it works for you.
