Footer space and text block background

Hello,

I'm wondering if there is a way to reduce the padding around the footer on my site. Ideally I'd like the footer to have minimal padding on both top and bottom.

On another note, I'm also toying with the idea of having certain text blocks have a different background color than the rest of the page. Is there a way to do that on specific text blocks only?
