embedding a custom gif into customer notification emails

I have never asked a question, so please forgive me if I did not set this up correctly. I had a custom gif made and have pasted the google drive link into my email. I can see the gif on my preview email in Squarespace. Once I send it however, all the recipient receives is a gray box. Does anyone know what I'm doing wrong? Thank you.
