How to create a section with split image and 5 buttons with text

Can some one help me create a better design for the following mockup.. I know the color choice is terrible, but i am not allowed to change that

I am using SP 7.1

1. If there is a way to split this section into two halves and show picture of book in left half.

2. Have a better way to list all book formats ( first three are products on the current site), and next two are linked to external site.
