Playing an audio file when page opens

Looking to add an audio file that plays automatically when the home page of our site is rendered. Ideally, with capability for the user to shut it off.

It's possible with javascript, but it's not recommended.

Most people don't appreciate their phone or computer suddenly playing music without them asking it to.
