I'm trying to figure out a way to remove the requirement of entering a shipping address when someone purchases a digital product. A few of my customers have reached out to me confused as to why they need to provide their shipping address for products that are digital downloads, and I agree with them - it isn't necessary and it hurts my conversion to add additional steps to the checkout process. Is there a way to remove shipping address on the checkout screen for digital sales? I'm very surprised it isn't an option, or at least isn't easy to locate. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Solution paul2009 Posted July 20, 2020 Solution Share Posted July 20, 2020 (edited) You cannot prevent Squarespace prompting for a Billing Address but they will not be asked to enter a Shipping Address unless they also have physical goods in their cart. In the example below, you will see that when the physical item is removed, the 'Shipping' section is removed from the checkout: If you would prefer to sell digital products without asking for an address you may want to consider using an alternative commerce solution, such as SendOwl. Guest Posted July 6, 2023 Share Posted July 6, 2023 It seems really annoying to have the billing address for a digital product. Other DMS, big commerce, woo commerce, etc. don't have this. I signed up to squarespace without noticing this will be a problem. Customers are not going to purchase requiring additional steps in the checkout process. Using a 3rd party app would resolve the issue. Am very disappointed and looking for other platforms. Link to comment

When I apply the code for 100% off (betterflybooks), I am still asked to enter my physical address. If there's a way to remove that requirement for my digital downloads, it will simplify the checkout process for people. Or, let me know what I can tell them so they aren't scared to purchase with all the personal info they are sharing. Thank you! Link to comment
creedon Posted September 11, 2023 Share Posted September 11, 2023 Unfortunately this is how the checkout is setup and there is no setting to turn it off. When the total is zero it should be possible to bypass the need for an address. I suspect though that this is a more uncommon situation and so SS didn't design that in.
