How do I change the background color of a section if I also have an image as the background?

I used custom css to shift my background image to the left because I wanted a split screen with my text to the right of the image. However, I would like to change the background color that's behind the text, which is currently sitting on a default white background, How do I do that?

Try adding to Home > Design > Custom CSS

It's getting there. This code overrode the custom width I had for the text so now the text is at 100% instead of just the background color. I would also like for the background color (black) to be the same height as the image.

Did you remove block?
