Adding a filter facility to a page

Hi, I run a community website and I'm looking to add a 'Property for sale' page.  As there would be upto 100 properties on there I'd need viewers to be able filter down by things such as area, minimum/maximum price, number of bedrooms etc.  My site is set up using the Tudor template and I've been advised this kind of filtering system would only be available by using coding.  They said I could set up a blog page and use tags and categories but then the filtering side would be very limited.  Can anyone advise if this is right and if so, what I need to do with regards to the coding side of things?  Thanks all
