Hi there!

I need to attach 2 PDF files (terms + cancellation policy) to these customer notification emails:

1. order confirmation

2. order shipment confirmation

I would like the customer to receive these pdf as part of the email, so they can just click on PDF sign and open it or save on their computer.

Thanks!

You cannot add the PDF file itself, but you can add a link to the email so that when a customer clicks it, the PDF will download from your site and be shown.

To do this, follow the Uploading and managing files guide to add the PDF file to your site. Once added to your site, you will have a URL. Make a note of this.

Next, go to Commerce > Customer Notifications > Order Emails and edit the relevant email. Add some HTML text like this for each PDF link:

<a href="https://www.sitename.com/s/terms.pdf">View Terms</a>

Change 'https://www.sitename.com/s/terms.pdf' to match the correct link to your PDF, and change 'View Terms' according to your needs.

When you have saved your changes, you should be able to send a test email by clicking the SEND TEST EMAIL button further down the panel.

@paul2009 thanks for the tip, this works in sqaurespace environment, but when I receive a test email, the hyperlink is not clicking through. any ideas why? thanks! can that be because the website is no live yet?

This works for me regularly, both within Squarespace and within the actual email.

Could your email client be blocking links within emails until they are approved? It is difficult to troubleshoot this remotely, so if this isn't the issue, you may need to post a video for others to see what you see.

@paul2009 here below is also the whole code with the part you shared previously. I slightly updated it for the font, color etc., maybe this is the reason why the links are not clicking through (opening) when email is in the inbox?

Is there a way to do this but not have the code show up?

For example, I see the whole thing:

<a href="https://www.website.com/s/pdfFile.pdf">My Chosen Text</a>

but would like to see

My Chosen Text.pdf (as a clickable link)

Hi Matter,

While it still isn't possible to add a PDF download to a customer notification email, you can now edit the text of the customer notification email" per product type in order to include a download link. You can take a look at our "Customer Email Notifications" guide for further information.
