Also should this be in header injection or custom css for the site? I tried both but didn't have success with either. Link to comment

Let me think about this and get back to you, since it's all lightbox so there is no unique url for them. One possible option is to create double images of the gallery and use the 'odd' item as the back image, eg you have 9 images in gallery, now you need to set up 18 and use custom code to edit. Will you be open to that?
